Bulk Emailing: Help, Please

I usually sneer condescendingly at people who use mail-merge and forms and databases to automate large repetitive batch processes. Mostly because I don't know how to do it. But that's beside the point. As much as I fancy myself as "guy who does cumputer thingies," there's plenty I don't know how to do.

Today I just had to send out the same email to 75 people. It would have been a lot easier if I had an easy merge-type program or process. My reasons for sending the emails individually were that I wanted to personalize the salutation ("Dear [so and so]... blah blah blah") and I didn't want all of the email addresses showing up in every recipients' mailbox.  I considered doing a bcc to everybody, but that seemed inelegant and still wouldn't give me personaized salutations. I do believe there's a way to not show email addresses when sending bulk email without using the bcc field using Apple Mail or Address Book. I'll have to do some research.

Does anybody know a simple process for sending bulk email with personalized salutations and without disclosing other email addresses or recipients? Any help from the Daylight or Rocket Matter gurus?

Hey, I downloaded that and checked it out. It looks like that will do the trick. I'll have to do some fiddling to make it smooth. Nice find! Thanks, Mark!

For bulk emailing, I'll recommend Vertical Response. http://www.verticalresponse.com/email-marketing/
It works well for email blasts where you want to personalize it and need to avoid getting blacklisted.

Thanks for the suggestion, Stephanie. I can honestly say I never considered outsourcing my email! It's an interesting idea.

We had a little custom work that we needed in this regard. We hired Larry Staton Jr. (scriptingforlawyers.com) to put something together for us. He rocks, can't say enough good things.

For non-personalized email blasts, we use Mad Mimi. Also terrific.
