Three months ago (to the day, actually), my wife, baby and I moved back to my home town – in Hagerstown, Maryland. We did this to be back around my family and to enjoy a dramatically reduced cost of living. These benefits have come at a cost, however. I now drive 1.5 hours each way on a good day. I typically spend about 3.5 hours a day in my car (on a positive note, I am up to date on my podcasts!). I generally wake up at 5 a.m., leave by 6:30 and get to work around 8. I leave at 4 and get home around 5:45-6 p.m.. I work “down the road” 4 days a week and try to work from home on Fridays. Most of the time I can do this unless I am in Court. I love my job and am very fortunate to have a boss that allows me to be this flexible. Ultimately, the commute cannot last forever, and I am making efforts to establish a sustainable branch in Hagerstown. 

Even while working from home one day a week, I find that my free time is in short supply. That is what spending 14 hours a week in the car will do for you. Thus, I haven’t had much time or energy to write a lot lately. After 3 months, we are more-or-less in the swing of things. I’m feeling like I’m in a more organized place now, and am ready to resume writing with some frequency.

Amid my personal busy-ness of moving and readjusting, my job has had me very busy as well. I am grateful for this, because not all business is so busy nowadays. I view these things as challenges that help to sharpen me as a person and push me into finding a better way to get things done.

Anyway, I try not to get too personal on this site (that’s what Facebook and Twitter are for, right?), but I felt I owed a bit of an explanation to those who visit regularly and have supported my efforts.
