Herald Bumps Apple Mail Notification Up A Notch

Herald, by Erik Hinterbichler, is a powerful yet lightweight email notification plugin for Apple’s Mail.app. Last year, I posted about another excellent email notification plugin for Apple Mail called mail.appetizer. The reason I say that “Herald bumps Apple mail notification up a notch” is because Herald takes the idea first implemented by mail.appetizer and adds some nice improvements. In fact, Erik Hinterbichler freely admits that Herald is “[i]nspired by the excellent Mail.appetizer plugin.” Herald improves upon Mail.appetizer in a few ways. Herald allows you to...

Two Days With My Palm Pre

Without a doubt, the Palm Pre is the best phone I have ever owned. Of course, that’s not saying much, since the previous best phone I ever owned was my Sanyo Katana that I’ve had for over 2.5 years, and it was just a plain ol’ phone. Why Pre? My wife and I have been getting along pretty well with each of us having a cell phone, iPod Touch, and a digital camera (of the Canon SD variety). We completed our latest 2 year contract with Sprint a little over 6 months ago, and we loved being contract free. We have been waiting for the iPhone to end exclusivity with AT&T and we both know...

Download Postbox Today: Open Beta

Recently, I posted a review of Postbox, a new email client for Mac and Windows that is based on Mozilla, like Thunderbird. Until yesterday, the application was in private beta. Now, you can go to http://postbox-inc.com/ and download the beta version to try for yourself. If my review wasn’t enough to satisfy your curiosities, check out these reviews below from (arguably) more qualified sources: TUAW First Look: Postbox Public Beta – The Unofficial Apple Weblog (TUAW) Postbox competes with Thunderbird using Mozilla code | Webware – CNET Downloads: Postbox Collects and Organizes Your...

Postbox: New Heavyweight Email Contender

Shortly before Christmas, I learned of Postbox, a new cross-platform email application from Postbox, Inc. The new email client is being developed by Scott MacGregor and Sherman Dickman – both men having an extensive background at Mozilla. According to CrunchBase, Scott MacGregor was “a lead engineer at Mozilla Corporation,” and Sherman Dickman was “Director of Product Management at Mozilla Corporation” where he “oversaw market and customer research, analytics and metrics.” Suffice it to say, these guys know something about building an email application. Postbox...

Efficient Email Notification from Mail.appetizer

Earlier this month, MacSparky wrote about freeing himself from the bondage of email notification. TechnoEsq wrote about email actually being a distraction from work.  Finis Price (TechnoEsq) says: a study done by Dr. Thomas Jackson of Loughborough University in England, found that “it takes an average of 64 seconds to recover your train if thought after interruption by email…So people who check their email every five minutes waste 8.5 hours a week figuring out what they were doing moments before.” While most people claim to check their email every 15 minutes, when actually studied, the average...
